What Is Applied Behavior Analysis?
ABA therapy is a safe and effective approach to autism treatment. This therapy involves scientific principles proven to increase positive behaviors while simultaneously decreasing behaviors that are destructive or dangerous. Our BCBA-led team is experienced at helping clients who are dealing with more severe challenging behaviors, and our long-term approach allows us to work with clients from their diagnosis until they graduate from school or our ABA program.
We use ABA therapy to help clients reach their goals in a variety of areas, including:
- Communication skills – Play-based therapy is an effective way for clients to learn both verbal and nonverbal communication skills
- Language skills – Learning how to communicate effectively with those around them can help clients reduce challenging behaviors
- Social skills – We offer a variety of social skills groups and activities to help our clients practice the skills they learn during therapy in real-world situations
- Academic skills – School readiness skills can help children and adolescents prepare for a transition into a traditional classroom
The applied behavior analyst is trained in their specific discipline and has typically completed undergraduate coursework, followed by ABA training, internship work and then applied behavior analysis.
What to Expect in ABA Therapy Sessions
During ABA therapy sessions, your loved one will participate in a variety of activities to help them learn essential life skills and reduce challenging behaviors. We make having fun a priority, too—we’re committed to making every client’s experience a positive one. Whether you’re participating in in-home, telehealth, or center-based ABA therapy, you can expect the following:
Our ABA therapists use best practice protocols for assessment. The interview process includes gathering relevant developmental history, family concerns, observation of behavior at home and other settings, review of medical records, and a standardized assessment.
Customized Treatment Plans
Our trained clinicians have extensive experience in the design, implementation, and management of ABA treatment programs. Through ongoing functional behavior assessments, we can target various behaviors and guide your child to long-term success.
Our BCBAs and behavioral technicians may use a number of techniques to influence our clients’ behaviors. For example, reinforcement is used as a reward for appropriate or desired behaviors. Modification involves using reinforcements and other techniques to decrease challenging behaviors. We use positive reinforcement to maintain existing skills but also work on developing new skills related to communication, socialization, and daily living activities.
